Delphi and WiTricity are working together to develop a wireless charging system for electric cars and plug-in hybrids to help owners of clean cars get rid of the trouble of connecting power cables after getting off the train.
This wireless charging system places the power output oscillation circuit under the garage floor or under the parking space. The system allows the power output oscillation circuit and the power receiving oscillation circuit to have a greater positional deviation, and can efficiently transmit power at a further distance than the conventional system.
According to WiTricity owner Eric Giler, using this wireless charging system, charging electric vehicles is as easy as parking in your garage or parking space. WiTricity wireless charging system can charge more than 3300 watts, which is comparable to most charging systems in charging speed.
Randy Sumner, director of research and development at Delphi, said: "This is a groundbreaking technology that will allow automakers to integrate wireless charging systems directly into the design of their hybrid systems and electric vehicles."
