Networking in the Age of Social Distancing: Enter the Virtual Trade Show

In the era of social distancing, networking has taken on a whole new meaning. As traditional events and in-person meetings have been put on hold, businesses have had to adapt—quickly and creatively. Enter the virtual trade show: a powerful new tool that’s redefining how companies connect with their audiences. It’s fascinating to reflect on how different our world would be without the internet and digital solutions. Back in 1918, during the Spanish Flu, there was no Zoom, no webinars, no way to stay connected from afar. Today, we’re lucky to have these tools at our fingertips, helping us keep businesses running and teams united, even when we can’t meet face-to-face. So, what happens when those big industry conferences and expos come around? Well, it's time to think outside the box. That’s exactly what Nationwide Coils did when they joined the NYSSFA School Facilities Managers’ Virtual Conference & Expo on October 6th–7th, 2020. For years, we were members of NYSSFA but always missed the event due to scheduling conflicts. This year, though, the circumstances gave us a unique chance to participate—and it turned out to be a valuable experience. The virtual trade show was a hit, with over 80 exhibitors and more than 200 attendees. It was a great platform for us to showcase our products and services to a key audience: school facility managers. We provided downloadable materials such as data sheets on opposite-end steam coils, hot water coils, and chilled water coils—products that are commonly requested by schools. We also shared our brochure and exclusive preferred pricing program for NYSSFA members. Though we couldn’t shake hands or meet in person, we still made meaningful connections and expanded our email list. The event offered us a fresh perspective on the needs of this market and helped us grow our brand presence—all while staying safe and comfortable in our remote office. Looking back, it’s clear that NYSSFA has been an important part of our journey since 2004, when we first started as a company. New York is not just a state where we operate—it’s our home.
