Polypropylene production needs rapid growth

Since the beginning of this year, the production of polypropylene in China has been in a good state, and production has continued to grow substantially. From January to July, the national polypropylene production (enterprises above designated size) reached 4.0416 million tons, an increase of 18.6% year-on-year, which was the highest level in the same period in history. Last year, China's new polypropylene production capacity was 1.3 million tons/year, which led to a total production capacity of 6.91 million tons/year, 1.2 times more than in 2001, and an average annual growth rate of 16.7% in five years.
Polypropylene is one of the polymer species with rapid development in China. In 2000, China's polypropylene output exceeded 30.5 million tons for the first time to 3,305,100 tons. In 2005, it exceeded 5 million tons to 5,229,500 tons. In 2006, it increased to 5,849,150 tons, an increase of 11.7% over the previous year, setting a record high for historical production. From 2002 to 2006, the growth rate has remained double-digit for five consecutive years. In 2006, polypropylene production accounted for 23.1% of the total output of plastic resins.
Although the production of polypropylene in China has grown rapidly, it still cannot meet the rapidly growing demand in the domestic market, especially in the plastics industry. Since the early 1980s, there has been a relatively large number of imports. In recent years, the import volume has been even more. increase. According to customs statistics, in 2005 and 2006, China's polypropylene imports exceeded 3 million tons, accounting for 34.6% of domestic consumption in the same year. In the first half of this year, China imported 1.592 million tons of polypropylene, which was an increase of 2.7% over the same period of last year.
With the rapid development of plastic products industry and chemical fiber industry, the consumption of polypropylene in China has grown rapidly. In 2000, the apparent consumption of polypropylene in China reached 4.665 million tons. In 2001, it exceeded 5 million tons for the first time to reach 5.3 million tons. In 2002, it exceeded 6 million tons to 6.17 million tons. In 2004, it exceeded 7 million tons to 764.74 million tons. The annual breakthrough exceeded 8 million tons to 8.23 million tons. In 2006, it increased to 8.9 million tons, creating the highest level of historical consumption. In 2006, it increased by 90.7% from 2000, and the average annual growth rate was 11.4% in six years. The average annual growth rate during the 10th Five-Year Plan period was 12.0%. China has become the world's largest consumer of polypropylene.
At present, most of the consumption of polypropylene in China is used to make plastic products, accounting for about 94% of the total consumption of polypropylene, and a small part is used for the production of polypropylene fiber. Among polypropylene plastic products, woven products (including packaging tapes and tying ropes, etc.) accounted for about 55%, injection molded products (including turnover boxes and washing machine drums, etc.) accounted for about 18%, and films accounted for about 12%. In 2006, China's total output of plastic products (enterprises above designated size) reached 28.02 million tons, an increase of 27.4% over the previous year, setting a record high. Since 2000, the output of China's plastic products has maintained double-digit growth for six consecutive years. In 2006, the output of plastic products increased by 1.7 times from 2000, and the average annual growth rate in the six years was as high as 17.8%. In the first half of this year, China's plastic product output (enterprises above designated size) increased to 14.7181 million tons, an increase of 15.0% over the same period of last year.
During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, China will complete a series of expansion, expansion, and construction of new polypropylene production facilities. Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Co., Ltd. has an annual output of 250,000 tons of polypropylene production equipment and a 300,000-ton/year polypropylene production facility newly built by PetroChina Daqing Refining & Chemical Branch was put into operation in 2005. Daqing Refining's second annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of polypropylene plant project construction has entered the start-up phase. After the plant is completed and put into production, the polypropylene production capacity of Daqing Refining & Chemical Branch will reach an annual output of 600,000 tons, which will become the largest in China. Polypropylene production company, which marks the Daqing refinery branch to the world-class polypropylene base construction has taken a major step. Datang International Power Generation Co., Ltd. has an annual output of 460,000 tons of polypropylene-based coal-based olefin projects under intense construction. This project is one of the important projects of Datang International Power Generation Co., Ltd.'s diversified development strategy and is located in Duolun, Inner Mongolia. The project uses brown coal as raw material in Xilinhot East Shengli Coalfield, Inner Mongolia, and adopts internationally advanced pulverized coal gasification, gas conversion, methanol synthesis, propylene synthesis, and propylene polymerization technology, and ultimately produces 460,000 tons of polypropylene and methanol, gasoline, and sulfur annually. And other by-products.
In recent years, the international crude oil prices have continued to remain high, which has greatly increased the production costs of polypropylene, which uses petroleum as raw materials, thereby narrowing the profit margin. Therefore, in the coming years, with the acceleration of globalization of the market, polypropylene production enterprises in China must adapt to market changes and needs in a timely manner, develop new technologies, further optimize product mix, reduce production costs, increase economic efficiency, and enhance market competitiveness. Polypropylene production in China continued to develop steadily.
