Bill Friedrich recently shared photos of four new fire apparatus deliveries to departments in Divisions 12, 13, and 19. Notably, the first three units are all painted black over red, a color scheme that has been used by Wheaton for many years. St. Charles previously had a white-over-lime-green paint job, but they transitioned to black-over-red several years ago. Oak Brook Terrace has long used a white-over-red design, but this new engine marks their first black-over-red unit.
The first image shows a 2010 Pierce Impel pumper assigned to Wheaton Fire Department, Engine 431. It features a 1,500-GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank. The second photo captures Oak Brook Terrace’s new engine, built by Marion on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic cab. This is the first time the department has opted for a black cab roof, breaking from their traditional white roofs. The engine is equipped with a 1,500-GPM pump and a 1,000-gallon water tank.
Further details of the Oak Brook Terrace engine reveal a well-designed engineer’s compartment, making it easy to access equipment. The rear of the truck features a low hose bed with secure webbing as required by NFPA standards. Another shot highlights the officer’s side with a hydraulic ladder rack, while the curbside includes tools for vehicle extrication.
St. Charles’ new Truck 101 is a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT quint with a 1,500-GPM pump, 500-gallon water tank, and a 100' aluminum aerial. Lastly, Manhattan Fire Department received a new engine built by Alexis on a Spartan chassis with a Gladiator Classic cab. Engine 1221 has a 1,500-GPM pump and a 750-gallon water tank. These updates reflect ongoing modernization efforts across several departments.
