Chicago Still & Box Alarm with Mayday, 10-26-16

Excerpts from the ChicagoSunTimes.com:

A firefighter narrowly escaped serious injury after falling through a collapsing staircase while responding to a house fire in the West Englewood neighborhood on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 5:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of South Paulina, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The department issued a "mayday" call, indicating that a firefighter had become trapped or lost during the operation. Fortunately, the firefighter was able to slow his fall by backing down the staircase as it gave way. He managed to climb out on his own and did not require any medical attention.

Despite the alarming situation, all firefighters involved are reported to be safe and accounted for. However, there is still an ongoing search for one civilian who may have been inside the home. Authorities suspect the individual could be a squatter, and the search continues at the scene.
