HJ3 Receives PEMEX Approval

HJ3's CarbonSealâ„¢ Industrial Composite Systems Receive PEMEX Approval for Steel Pipe Repair and Reinforcement

HJ3 has reached a major milestone with the approval of its CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems by PEMEX, Mexico’s leading energy company. This certification allows HJ3 to offer its advanced carbon fiber solutions for repairing and reinforcing both low-risk and high-risk corroded or damaged steel pipelines. The system is now eligible for use across all stages of oil and gas operations, including onshore, offshore, exploration, refining, transmission, and distribution pipelines.

"This is a huge step forward for HJ3," said Jim Butler, President and Co-founder of the company. "With over 10,000 applications completed globally for civil and industrial infrastructure, this approval opens up new opportunities in the Latin American petrochemical and gas industry. Our carbon fiber products provide exceptional strength per layer, offering cost-effective alternatives to traditional repair methods or full pipeline replacements."

The qualification process was conducted by the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP) and involved rigorous testing according to ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 Appendix III and ISO/TS 24817 standards. Notably, HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ system passed a burst test, demonstrating it can withstand internal pressures exceeding 5,000 psi even when applied to areas with 80–90% steel wall loss.

2012 marks a pivotal year for HJ3 as it celebrates a decade of innovation. The company was also awarded the Arizona Innovation Challenge Grant for the second consecutive year by the Arizona Commerce Authority, outperforming over 400 competitors. Additionally, HJ3 was named "Technology Company of the Year" by the Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona. With more than 25 years of large-scale testing and 20,000 hours of durability assessments, HJ3 continues to support Fortune 500 companies like ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, British Petroleum, and now PEMEX, delivering materials with unmatched strength, engineering support, and on-site quality control.

PEMEX, officially known as Petróleos Mexicanos, is the largest company in Mexico and Latin America. It plays a key role in the country's sustainable development as the top contributor to national revenue. As one of the few global oil companies that manages every stage of petroleum production—from exploration to refining and distribution—PEMEX is a critical player in the region’s energy landscape.
