Robotic EV Charging Is Being Tested in Texas

At Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, a groundbreaking EV charging robot named ZiGGY is currently being tested this summer in parking lots, offering a glimpse into the future of electric vehicle (EV) charging. This innovative project, led by Los Angeles-based EV Safe Charge, aims to revolutionize how drivers access charging stations. ZiGGY is a mobile, autonomous robot designed to travel to vehicles parked in DFW's lots, charge them, and then return to its base without human intervention. The system allows users to request the robot via an app, which then locates an available parking spot, reserves it, and guides the vehicle to the designated space. Once the car arrives, ZiGGY moves out of the way, positions itself behind the vehicle, and begins the charging process. This technology is particularly useful for addressing the common problem of "ICEing," where gas-powered cars block EV charging spots. Unlike traditional charging stations that only serve specific locations, ZiGGY can reach every car in a lot, providing a flexible and efficient solution for EV owners. The demonstration, part of a larger initiative at DFW Airport, will run from May through August, showcasing cutting-edge advancements in EV infrastructure. EV Safe Charge, the company behind ZiGGY, has partnered with major automotive brands such as Jaguar, Porsche, and Nissan to develop temporary and scalable charging solutions. With the growing demand for EVs, innovations like ZiGGY could play a key role in making charging more accessible and convenient.
