Excerpts from ChicagoTribune.com:
A lightning strike hit a home in Hainesville on Thursday afternoon, sparking a fire that quickly spread to the roof of the house. Emergency responders were called to the scene at 12:20 p.m. after a 911 call reported a house fire in the 200 block of Big Horn Drive. Upon arrival, first responders found that about a quarter of the roof was already engulfed in flames.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials believe it was likely caused by the lightning strike. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes. No injuries have been reported so far, though the homeowners are currently without power and are dealing with significant property damage.
