Response to questioning BYD said it has mastered the core technology of electric vehicles

The chief engineer of BYD responded to the dispute over the national support route and stated that “the argument is not interesting, the key is to take out the product”.

BYD's launch of e6 pioneers coincides with China's introduction of private incentives for new energy vehicles for a year and a half. However, the government’s maximum subsidy of RMB 60,000 has failed to promote the development of the electric vehicle market. Very few transactions have been made in the past year and a half. In this regard, as the person in charge of BYD's automotive technology, Lian Yubo frankly stated that it is not meaningful to argue about the new energy vehicle's technical route or the like. The key is to take out the product. “The state has implemented a private subsidy policy for the purchase of electric vehicles for more than a year. Several companies have received subsidies. The key is still no good products.” Lian Yubo said that companies only have to come up with several competitive products. The model naturally takes shape; while the R&D product is precisely the responsibility of the company, the current situation is that the government and society have already reached the front of the company (referring to charging and other supporting construction).

Lian Yubo disclosed that BYD has already reserved battery capacity for the development of electric vehicles. The Huizhou battery base with an investment of 1.5 billion yuan has already been put into production. This year, it has a large volume production capacity, and there will be more electric vehicle supply markets next year. Prior to this, Wang Chuanfu also said that 2011 should be the first year of BYD’s large-scale mass production of electric vehicles. He expects the new energy business to generate profits within three years.

BYD is so full of confidence that whether the company has unanimously decided that electric vehicles will soon enter the fast-growing period? Lian Yubo said in an interview with this reporter that the popularity of electric vehicles depends not only on companies but also on the government and society. He believes that domestic electric vehicles will flourish in 3 to 5 years.

However, BYD’s ambitious electric vehicle development plan will likely face the challenge of more sophisticated hybrid products first. The long-rumored "New Energy Vehicle Industry Plan" has been submitted to the State Council. It is said that the plan is expected to be introduced by the end of the year. Unlike previous emphasis on pure electric vehicle routes, hybrid vehicles will also be supported. On the eve of the planning launch, the major car companies are speeding up the deployment of new energy vehicles, especially hybrid vehicles, and BYD does not have similar Toyota's hybrid technology. Under such circumstances, BYD's pure electric vehicles have a certain chance of winning in the face of Toyota's many leading hybrids. We will wait and see.
