At approximately 3:15 AM, Wheeling firefighters responded to a call about smoke coming from an apartment building on Lexington Court. Upon arrival, they discovered that the outdoor electric utility box was fully engulfed in flames. While waiting for ComEd to arrive and de-energize the system, the crew stretched their hoses and evacuated the building to ensure everyone's safety. After about an hour on the scene, the power was successfully turned off, allowing firefighters to begin extinguishing the remaining fire using water and foam. Once the fire was under control, power was rerouted, and residents were permitted to return to their homes.
