Tim Olk recently visited the Gurnee Fire Department and shared photos of the newly arrived Engine 1312, which is still not in service, and Ambulance 1344, which is already operational. Both units are now stationed at Station 2. The arrival of these new vehicles has prompted some reallocation of equipment throughout the department.
The old Ambulance 1344, a 2000 IHC chassis with a 2001 Road Rescue body, has been retired. Similarly, the previous Engine 1312, a 1995 E-One fixed cab Cyclone 1500/750, has also been removed from service. With the introduction of the new command car 1396, the older 2000 Ford Expedition that previously served as unit 1396 will be disposed of.
Ambulance 1343 will now be based at Station 1, where it will serve as the first response unit. Ambulance 1341 will be the second ambulance available from Station 1, while Ambulance 1342 will remain unstaffed for now. Additionally, the former command car 1392 will transition to a staff vehicle at Station 1.
The new Ambulance 1344 is a 2012 Ford F-450/Road Rescue Type I, equipped with modern medical features and ready for immediate use. The Engine 1312, a 2012 E-One Cyclone II, comes with a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump, 750 gallons of water, and additional foam capacity for both Class A and B fires. These upgrades mark an important step forward for the Gurnee Fire Department’s fleet.
