A few days ago, we learned from the Shandong Province Chemical Industry Work Conference that 3,789 chemical enterprises above the designated size in the province achieved a total industrial output value of 272.9 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 17.9%. Their main business revenue reached 858.7 billion yuan, up by 27.5% compared to the previous year. This performance highlights Shandong's leading position in China's chemical industry, with its total economic volume ranking first nationwide.
In 2007, Shandong processed 39.36 million tons of crude oil and produced 860,000 tons of ethylene. The province also topped the country in the production of nine major chemical products, including tires, caustic soda, and fertilizers. The four key competitive industries—petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, rubber processing, and chemical fertilizers—accounted for 71.8% of the industry's total revenue, an increase of 2.4 percentage points from the previous year. These figures reflect the steady growth and strong competitiveness of Shandong’s chemical sector, which continues to play a vital role in the national economy.
