Russia will reduce gas supply to Ukraine

Gazprom said on the 2nd that Russia and Ukraine have still not reached an agreement on resolving the issue of natural gas debt, and Russia will start reducing its gas supply to Ukraine on schedule on the 3rd.
Russia’s Natural Gas Industry Corporation’s spokesperson Sergei Koprianov said that at present Russia and Uzbekistan have not yet reached any agreement, and Russia will reduce gas supply to Ukraine as scheduled, but the two sides still maintain contact.
Recently, Russia’s Natural Gas Industry Corporation announced that if Russia and Uzbekistan cannot reach an agreement on March 3, the Russian side will reduce the supply of natural gas to Ukraine by 25% from 10:00 on the 3rd.
At the request of Ukraine, Russia began supplying emergency natural gas to Ukrainians on January 1 of this year to make up for the shortfall in demand. Up to now, the amount of gas supply has reached 1.9 billion cubic meters, worth about 600 million U.S. dollars. However, Ukraine has not paid this far.
Gazprom supplies a quarter of the natural gas needed by the EU countries, of which 80% goes through Ukraine to Europe. In early 2006, the company temporarily cut off natural gas supply to Uzbekistan due to natural gas price disputes, which affected the supply of gas in many European countries.
