China National Heavy Duty Truck is only a matter of time

SINOCHEM wants to re-explore the bus business, and does not rule out cooperation with MAN on buses? According to relevant media reports, on October 13, 2009, when Chua Dong, CEO of CNHTC, attended the press conference on cooperation with MAN, he casually stated: “Heavy steam does not rule out cooperating with MAN on buses.” This led to the outside world's conjecture on the resumption of production of passenger cars by CNHTC: Does SINOBIRC really have to start developing on buses? Then when will they cooperate with MAN in bus business? In the clear division of the bus market by dominant companies, how will SINOBIRC create its own living space?

To this end, on October 14, 2009, a reporter from China Bus Network interviewed an insider from China National Heavy Duty Truck and asked about the status of the heavy-duty truck project. When talking about whether Sinotruk will co-operate with MAN to develop passenger car production, the insider said: "For heavy trucks, the truck is the main business, but when the main business develops to a certain extent, heavy truck will consider developing Related business. Moreover, Sinotruck has always had a passenger car project. In the future, whether or not it cooperates with MAN, Shouqi will develop passenger car business at an appropriate time.” And whether the more concerned about the heavy truck has been prepared for the next phase of how to develop passenger cars At the time of business planning, the insider stated that at present he has no relevant information to disclose.

Although we do not have exact information on whether or not CNHTC has to vigorously reinvigorate the bus business, according to previous media reports, we can see that SINOTRUK has always been “in love” with the passenger car project.

Heavy truck is one of the earliest companies to produce passenger cars in China. In recent years, the company has focused its energy on heavy trucks. Therefore, the development of passenger cars is not fast. Currently, there is a passenger car company under CNHTC, namely China National Heavy Truck Group Jinan Bus Co., Ltd. The company's predecessor was the Jinan Bus Factory. It was reorganized from SINOSTEEL in the late 1990s and was formally launched in July 1999. However, the production has not been very large. However, each large truck company will actively develop its own bus business. This is due to the proximity of commercial vehicle technology and a trend in which truck companies actively develop a full range of commercial vehicles. China National Heavy Duty Truck Group is no exception.

In 2003, China National Heavy Duty Truck once held a special meeting to study the development of passenger cars. In April 2003, China National Heavy Duty Trucks Division was established to undertake the development and sales of passenger car products and to take the road to occupy new markets. After the bus division was established, it cooperated with the bus company to emancipate the mind, increase product development and market development efforts, and at the same time steadily expanded, successfully launched the Ester Dragon series models, which was in the history of the development of China National Heavy Duty Truck. For the first time. The successful development of the Yisitelong series buses also achieved the strategic goal of the development of China National Heavy Duty Trucks to produce buses and shift to the development of medium-to-high-end urban coaches.

On June 30, 2005, China National Heavy Duty Trucks Division launched the first low-floor, full-load truss-type undercarriage and six-balloon air suspension urban electric pure electric bus chassis of China National Heavy Duty Truck. The structure of the chassis has reached the highest level of domestic urban bus chassis.

In 2007, Sinotruk was listed in Hong Kong. At the end of 2008, China National Heavy Duty Truck set up a passenger car division of a listed company. Then in March 2009, a high-level heavy truck company once told the media that “China Sinotruk’s domestic targets are mainly aimed at related industries, and the reorganization is focused on passenger car manufacturers and construction machinery, and the fastest bus vehicle restructuring project is at the end of the second quarter. It will be announced.” The high-level remarks have also triggered speculation about the reorganization of heavy-duty trucks for a period of time. This also shows from the side the industry's concern for heavy-duty trucks in the passenger car industry.
For CNHTC, everyone's general opinion is: One day, SINOCHEM will certainly vigorously develop bus projects, because SINOTRUK has its own advantages in terms of capital and technology. The development of passenger car projects is only a matter of time for heavy trucks. Just like this insider of CNHTC told China Bus Network reporter: “Our heavy truck has its own chassis, engine, transmission, axles and other key parts, which can be applied to passenger cars with only a slight modification. Our future bus production is also a great advantage."

This is not a false statement. From a worldwide point of view, the giants that produce heavy trucks are generally giants in the production of passenger cars. For example, the German MAN and Scania, both giants of the world's truck industry, are both world leaders in passenger car projects. Many domestic passenger car companies in our country have introduced technology to cooperate with these two companies. For China National Heavy Duty Truck, although the cooperation with MAN is only in the truck business, the connectivity and integration of automotive technology will allow Sinotruk to have its own unique advantages in passenger car production technology. Therefore, it is natural for China National Heavy Industry to vigorously develop passenger cars in the future.

However, for the future development of heavy truck in the passenger car project, there are also people in the industry to worry about. Some industry sources told the China Bus Network reporter that although CNHTC has developed its passenger bus business, it has its own advantages in manufacturing and technology, but this is not a sufficient condition for market advantages. The current domestic passenger car market has basically been divided by a few strong companies. For heavy trucks, it will be more difficult for them to break through and win their own place. In addition, trucks and buses are different in terms of marketing, which is also a major issue that needs to be resolved in the business of developing passenger cars by CNHTC.

As far as the reporter is concerned, the products of China National Heavy Duty Truck on buses are mainly buses and tourist buses. Among them, the bus version of the main hit is the low-floor AMT automatic models, tourism version of the main series Esterlong, this bus front face using asymmetric large curved glass, the driver has no blind spots, the appearance of new and smooth. In addition to the entire vehicle, the heavy-duty bus chassis is also widely used, especially the various 12m bus chassis in the domestic similar products have considerable advantages, it is understood that the C12 tram chassis in Beijing alone has more than 500 vehicles.
