On Tuesday, June 18, 2019, firefighters from Mount Prospect were dispatched to a single-family home at 1418 E. Green Lane after reports of a fire in the attic. Upon arrival, crews found flames already spreading and quickly worked to contain the blaze. As the situation escalated, the second-floor ceiling collapsed just as firefighters evacuated the structure. The fire vented through the roof, prompting crews to take a defensive position.
The incident was initially classified as a Code 3, which was later upgraded to a Code 4 upon the arrival of the first responding units. As the fire continued to grow, a MABAS Box Alarm was activated, bringing additional resources from surrounding areas. Firefighters from Rolling Meadows, Prospect Heights, Des Plaines, and Arlington Heights provided initial support, followed by units from Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, North Maine, Schaumburg, Northbrook, and Hoffman Estates.
Despite the challenging conditions, crews worked tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading further. Multiple fire trucks, including engines and ladder companies, arrived on scene, with some using aerial apparatus to combat the flames from above. Smoke and heat filled the air, and the roof remained a major point of concern throughout the operation.
Photographs from the scene captured the intensity of the fire, showing smoke pouring from the roof and emergency vehicles positioned around the property. Local photographers, including Dan McInerney, documented the response, highlighting the efforts of firefighters from multiple departments working together under difficult circumstances.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no injuries were reported. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick response and coordination in such emergencies.
