Last week, a survey conducted by the China Youth Daily Social Survey Center through the People’s Republic of China and Yahoo!.com’s survey of 2,618 people showed that 95.4% of respondents said that the cost of weddings is very high, and 65.9% of them said that they are very high. Of the respondents, 58.2% were married and 41.8% were unmarried.

Wedding celebrations are lavish

In the survey, the top three reasons were: showing off a serious competition (80.5%); wedding content has increased, such as wedding dress, diamond ring, honeymoon (54.6%), and wedding merchants (46.0%). For the reasons why weddings are losing their taste, respondents preferred “materialization is serious” (78.9%), followed by “pursuit of fashion, others must have their own” (61.9%), ranking third. "Many people do not understand the traditional wedding ceremony and its connotation" (42.9%). Other reasons were "impacted by Western culture, influence" (32.1%), "fast pace of life, no time to take into account traditional rituals" (18.7%).

For these traditional wedding ceremonies, only 5.0% of respondents stated that they are very familiar with the traditional Chinese wedding ceremonies mentioned above, and 20.7% are more familiar; 31.4% say they don't understand, and 14.2% don't understand .

However, more respondents (48.7%) expressed their preference for "Chinese weddings," 19.7% preferred "western weddings," and 31.6% felt "indifferent."
