The key technology and equipment development project of the Three Gorges giant air-cooled water turbine generator set was approved in Harbin. The appraisal committee believes that the overall technology of the project has reached the international leading level.
A total of 32 hydroelectric generating units with a capacity of 700,000 kilowatts were designed and installed in the Three Gorges Hydropower Station. Among them, two units independently designed and manufactured by Harbin Electric Machinery Co., Ltd. have successfully put into operation in the Three Gorges right bank power station last year. The appraisal committee listened carefully to the report on the R&D and operation of the Harbin Electric Power Company and the Three Gorges Power Plant. After on-site inspection of the operation of the unit, it was considered that since the domestically-made units were put into operation, various technical performances have met the relevant standards and design requirements, and the hydraulic design of the unit has been completed. The air-cooling technology has made major breakthroughs in the application of large-capacity hydro-generator units. The stability of the unit and the temperature rise index of the generator set are superior to the relevant standards and contract regulations, breaking the restrictions imposed by the original unit capacity on the total air-cooling technology. It has opened up a broad prospect for the application of full air cooling technology for giant hydroelectric generating units.
