The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) recently honored 41 organizations, including Sinopec Chemical Industry Group Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd., and 30 individuals for their significant contributions to the localization of key industrial equipment. This recognition highlights the efforts made by both enterprises and professionals in advancing China's self-reliance in critical technological sectors.
According to the NDRC's announcement, since the reform and opening-up era, China's manufacturing industry has achieved remarkable progress. Over the past decade, there have been substantial breakthroughs in original innovation, integrated innovation, and the absorption and re-innovation of advanced technologies. These efforts have led to the development of a wide range of high-performance equipment and essential machinery that support various industries, playing a vital role in driving national economic growth.
Among the honored petrochemical companies are Shandong Hualu Hengsheng Chemical Co., Ltd., China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd., China National Petroleum Corporation Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd., and Kaifeng Air Separation Group Co., Ltd. Individuals recognized include Yang Zhenfeng, General Manager of Shandong Hualu Hengsheng Chemicals; Wang Tingjun, former Director of the Major Equipment Localization Office at Sinopec; Huang Zhiqian, former Deputy General Manager of China National Petroleum Material & Equipment Corporation; and Xie Yaodong, Chief Engineer at Kaifeng Air Separation Group.
Since last year, the NDRC has focused on the development of large-scale ethylene projects, including four million-ton ethylene units and one million-ton PTA facilities in Tianjin, Zhenhai, Fushun, and Chengdu. Significant progress has already been made, with domestically produced hydrogenation reactors now in use. Several high-pressure units are also under development. In Sichuan, the localization rate of ethylene equipment has reached 85%, with four out of 12 sets fully utilizing domestic technology, three using a mix of domestic and foreign solutions with preference for local tech, and five still relying on foreign imports, though even these only involve technology packages rather than full foreign systems.
This achievement reflects the country's growing capability to develop and produce advanced industrial equipment independently, marking a major step forward in its long-term strategy for technological self-sufficiency.
