The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has recently recognized 41 organizations and 30 individuals for their significant contributions to the localization of key technical equipment in China. Among the honored entities is Sinopec Chemical Industry Group Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd., while Yang Zhenfeng and other notable professionals have also been acknowledged for their efforts in advancing domestic technological capabilities.
In its official statement, the NDRC highlighted that since the reform and opening-up era, China's manufacturing sector has achieved remarkable progress. Over the past decade, breakthroughs in original innovation, integrated innovation, and the absorption and re-innovation of advanced technologies have significantly boosted the development of major equipment. These advancements have provided critical infrastructure and cutting-edge machinery across various industries, playing a vital role in driving national economic growth.
Several petrochemical companies have received recognition, including Shandong Hualu Hengsheng Chemical Co., Ltd., China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd., China National Petroleum Corporation Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd., and Kaifeng Air Separation Group Co., Ltd. Individual honorees include Yang Zhenfeng, General Manager of Shandong Hualu Hengsheng Chemicals; Wang Tingjun, former Director of the Major Equipment Localization Office at Sinopec; Huang Zhiqian, former Deputy General Manager of China National Petroleum Material & Equipment Corporation; and Xie Yaodong, Chief Engineer at Kaifeng Air Separation Group.
According to recent reports, the NDRC has been focusing on several large-scale projects, such as the development of four million-ton ethylene facilities and one million-ton PTA plants in Tianjin, Zhenhai, Fushun, and Chengdu. The commission has made considerable progress in localizing key technologies. For instance, large hydrogenation reactors are now being produced domestically, and some high-pressure units are currently under development. In Sichuan, the localization rate for ethylene equipment has reached 85%, with four out of twelve sets of equipment fully utilizing domestic technology. Another three sets use a mix of domestic and foreign technologies, favoring local solutions, while five still rely on foreign technology, though only the technology package is imported for ethylene equipment.
This effort reflects China's growing ambition to reduce dependency on foreign technology and strengthen its position in global manufacturing.
