Uralmash, Russia's Ural Heavy Machinery Manufacturing Plant, has acquired a US offshore drilling rig design company for US$15 million.
In order to open up new business for offshore drilling platforms, the Ural combined heavy machinery manufacturer acquired its subsidiary Friede & Goldman GmbH from the bankruptcy of Friede Goldman Halter. Ural heavy machinery manufacturing plant mainly produces nuclear power plant equipment and mining and drilling equipment. The company expects that its merged Friede & Goldman Co., Ltd. will be a platform for rig equipment design. The heavy machinery company will reinvest in the next three years because the company is a profitable company with $9 million worth of orders.
The Ural heavy machinery factory is currently conducting market research. The company's Other subsidiaries Korall Design Bureau, Krasnoye Sornovo and Nizhny Novgorod Shipyard will provide engineering and manufacturing services for these equipment.
