Born in Joliet to Charles F. and Catherine M. (nee Briski) Reichhardt, George left behind a legacy of service, passion, and friendship.
George served with the East Joliet Fire Protection District and retired as a captain with the Fermilab Fire Department. George’s hobbies included photographing fire trucks, fires, trains, towboats, and collecting fire memorabilia. One of his favorite memories was riding Chicago Squad 3 in its early days. His publications include the *Fire Apparatus Photo Album of the Ford Tilt Cabs* and *Darley Fire Apparatus*, both edited in the mid-1980s. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the fire service community.
He is survived by his daughter Julie K. Reichhardt, his brother Donald J. (Barbara) Reichhardt, and his sister Katherine Sheck. He is also survived by step-children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends. George was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Christina A. Bourg.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, located at 102 E. Frances Rd, New Lenox, on Thursday, January 18, 2018, from 2:00 PM until the time of services at 8:00 PM. A fire department walk-through will begin at 7:00 PM.
