The arrival of the new Pierce Arrow XT at Glenview Engine 8 earlier this year marked a significant shift from the previous Enforcer models used for Engines 6 and 7. One of the most noticeable differences is the heavier Arrow XT cab/chassis, which provides a sturdier base compared to its predecessors. Additionally, the Arrow XT was equipped with a robust heavy steel bumper instead of the chrome bumpers seen on the older models. Another key change lies in the body design—Engine 8 features a taller and deeper "rescue-style" body. This redesign includes a sliding tool board in the first compartment, a comprehensive set of hydraulic extrication tools in the rear, and "coffin-style" compartments accessible from the top of the body, housing cord reels for hydraulic tools and hazardous material supplies. Engine 8 serves as the primary haz-mat unit in the area and works alongside Truck 14 for extrication responses. Engines 6, 7, and 13 are equipped with 'combi-tools' for minor rescues, but only Engine 8 and the truck boast the full range of tools.

According to reports, Glenview is currently exploring the purchase of two additional engines. One will follow the standard body configuration, while the other will mimic Engine 8's "rescue-style" design. However, this second engine will not be configured for haz-mat duties; instead, it will stock supplies specifically for technical rescue operations.
The rear of Engine 8 showcases the depth of its compartments and complies with NFPA standards through its rear chevron design. This engine carries a full complement of hydraulic tools and responds to calls requiring extrication across the entire village, working alongside Truck 14 and another reserve engine.

Engine 8’s innovative design elements, such as the sliding tool board, make the most of its spacious interior. This allows firefighters to access equipment quickly and efficiently during critical situations.

As Glenview continues to upgrade its fleet, these new additions underscore the department’s commitment to enhancing safety and operational capabilities. With Engine 8 leading the way, the future looks promising for Glenview's emergency response teams.
