Global Natural Gas Vehicle Growth of 14.8 Million Vehicles

According to foreign media csmonitor reported on June 20, the natural gas industry is accelerating reforms at this stage, and gradually turning to the automotive and transportation industries, this change is very timely, making up for the slowdown in global gas power generation growth. According to statistics, there are 14.8 million natural gas powered vehicles in the world, most of which are buses, garbage trucks, and other fleet vehicles.

According to the report of the International Energy Agency on the 20th, even if it is shifted from power plants to cars and trucks, timely promotion will mean that the U.S. prosperity in natural gas will likely continue for several years. Not everyone agrees that natural gas used in public utilities is equally applicable to the automotive sector.

Not everyone believes that the influence of natural gas on car companies is the same as its influence on public utilities. Changing fuel requires a comprehensive reform of existing infrastructure, and natural gas has its own set of environmental issues. In many areas, natural gas is difficult to compete with gasoline in terms of range, energy efficiency and price. However, it turns out that natural gas is a useful alternative energy source for large fleets, especially in areas with high oil prices.

“Natural gas has become the main fuel for power generation. Due to the adequacy of gas supply and concerns about oil dependence and air pollution, it will be seen as an important vehicle fuel in the next five years,” said Mariavander Hoeven, executive director of the International Energy Agency. "Once the infrastructure is complete, natural gas is likely to be used as a clean energy source for transportation."

Global gas use will increase by 2.4% annually before 2018. Due to weak European demand and disruption of production in the Middle East and Africa, it was lower than the estimated 2.7% increase last year.

According to the International Energy Agency, transportation accounts for only 1.4% of global gas demand in 2012. It is expected to rise to 2.5% in 2018 and still account for only a small share. Some Asian countries are eager to use clean fuels to reduce air pollution, and growth will be reflected in these countries.

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, there are 14.8 million natural gas-powered vehicles worldwide. Most of them are buses, garbage trucks, and other fleet vehicles. Several major companies, including branded shells and China Kunlun Energy Co., Ltd., plan to fill natural gas in large quantities and promote the use of fuel for long-distance transportation.
