New command van for Chicago FD (more)

The new mobile command post for Chicago Fire Department's Engine 2-7-2 is set to go into service on Monday, March 27, 2017. The unit is built on a 2013 Ford F53 chassis, with the body constructed by Utilimaster in 2015 and the final interior build completed by LDV in 2016. Utilimaster is a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, known for producing high-quality fire apparatus bodies. This mobile command post is an essential addition to the department’s fleet, offering advanced communication and command capabilities during large-scale incidents. It is assigned Shop ID#G-610, which helps track its maintenance and operational history. Photos from Larry Shapiro capture various aspects of the unit. One image shows the exterior of the van, while others highlight the interior layout, including control panels, workstations, and equipment storage. Additional photos focus on the chassis and body identification tags, providing insight into the vehicle’s specifications. These images offer a detailed look at how modern fire departments equip their units to handle complex emergency situations. With the combination of a reliable chassis, custom bodywork, and advanced interior design, this mobile command post is well-prepared to support firefighters in the field.
