House fire in Wheeling, 2-3-20

On Monday morning, the Wheeling Fire Department responded to a reported basement fire at 900 Valley Stream Drive. Upon arrival, visible smoke prompted the alarm to be upgraded to a working fire. A window on the lower level of the split-level home exploded with flames and heavy smoke pouring out. Firefighters quickly deployed two lines into the structure and successfully extinguished the fire within minutes. After the fire was under control, extensive overhaul and cleanup operations were conducted both inside and outside the home. The units on scene included Wheeling Engine 23, Engine 42, Truck 24, Ambulance 23, Ambulance 24, Battalion 24, and Chief 2401. Additional automatic and mutual aid units from nearby departments also arrived, including Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Prospect Heights Engine 39, Squad 9, Ambulance 9, Battalion 9, and Northbrook Ambulance 10. The quick response and coordinated effort helped prevent further damage and ensured the safety of the residents. Several photos captured the firefighters in action, showing them entering the burning home with hoses, preparing a second line, raising ladders, and using tools to assist in the operation. One image featured Lieutenant James Thelen of the Wheeling Fire Department, while another highlighted a Ferrara Inferno fire truck responding to the call.
