On the 13th, a reporter learned from the Heilongjiang Provincial Government that in response to a request from the Russian government, Heilongjiang Province will temporarily construct a dam at the entrance of the Fuyuan waterway. This measure aims to prevent the contaminated water mass, resulting from an explosion at a benzene plant in Jilin Petrochemical Company, from flowing into the Ussuri River. The dam is intended to ensure safe water extraction for cities along the river in Russia.
It has been reported that the Russian proposal for constructing a temporary dam at the Fuyuan Waterway can only be a short-term solution. Considering the on-site conditions, it is expected that an ice-sand dam will be built. Construction is scheduled to begin soon. The decision to implement this damming project was made after careful consideration, reflecting the Chinese government's responsible attitude toward environmental protection.
