China's tire industry has experienced significant growth and transformation in recent years, driven by the liberalization of the sector and the steady expansion of the domestic auto market. Before and after China's accession to the WTO, multinational tire giants entered the market, while major domestic companies also engaged in mergers and reorganizations. Following the first wave of joint venture restructuring, the competitive landscape of the Chinese tire industry is now undergoing a new phase of evolution.
Recently, Michelin launched its "Michelin with You" service in the domestic market, and just one day later, Goodyear responded with its "Car Nanny Plan." This shift marks a departure from previous strategies such as capital increases and production expansion, as both global leaders are now focusing on after-sales services and brand competition. According to industry sources, this signals that the domestic tire industry has moved beyond simple restructuring into a more integrated stage, where technology, service, and brand strength play a central role.
Steady growth highlights the industry’s resilience. The booming auto market has been a key driver for the tire sector. In 2004, the industry saw a record output of 239 million tires, up 18.7% from the previous year, with sales revenue reaching 79.35 billion yuan, a 37.6% increase. In 2005, total production rose to 283 million tires, with sales surpassing 80 billion yuan. The radialization rate of tires also improved significantly, with over 142 million radial tires produced, achieving a 50% radialization rate. Exports increased by 31%, with export value reaching $3.2 billion, showing strong international demand.
The industry’s healthy competition has helped reduce the old “scattered, chaotic, and small†structure, improving production concentration. Shandong alone accounted for 35.28% of national tire output in 2005, while the Yangtze River Delta region also showed rapid growth. Despite challenges like rising raw material costs and falling vehicle prices, the industry managed to achieve these results, demonstrating its adaptability.
In terms of market segments, three main groups dominate: multinational giants like Michelin, Goodyear, and Bridgestone; mid-tier Sino-foreign joint ventures and domestic players such as Fengshen and Double Star; and domestic biased tire manufacturers, who hold a significant share in the niche market. While the big names focus on after-sales and branding, the middle tier continues to evolve through restructurings and partnerships.
The future looks promising but challenging. With the replacement tire market accounting for nearly 70% of the total, after-sales services will be crucial. Industry experts predict continued growth at around 15% this year, but overcapacity remains an issue, particularly in the biased tire segment. As foreign investment increases, the industry is expected to become more competitive, leading to further consolidation and M&A activity in the next few years.
Iron Oxide
CAS NO.: 1332-37-2
EINECS NO.: 215-570-8
Iron oxide is the second largest inorganic pigment after Titanium Dioxide and the first largest color inorganic pigment. Iron oxide pigments mainly refer to Iron Oxide Red, iron yellow, iron black and iron brown pigments with iron oxide as the basic material. Iron oxide red is the main pigment (accounting for about 50% of iron oxide pigments). Mica iron oxide used as antirust pigment and magnetic iron oxide used as magnetic recording material also belong to the category of iron oxide pigments.
In the building materials industry, iron oxide is mainly used for color cement, color cement floor tiles, color cement tiles, imitation glazed tiles, concrete floor tiles, color mortar, color asphalt, terrazzo, mosaic tiles, artificial marble and wall painting; Used for coloring and protecting various coatings, including water-based interior and exterior wall coatings, powder coatings, etc; It can also be applied to oily paints, including epoxy, alkyd, amino and other primers and topcoats; It can also be used for toy paint, decorative paint, furniture paint, electrophoretic paint and enamel. Iron red primer has anti rust function and can replace high priced red lead paint to save non-ferrous metals.
Used for coloring plastic products, such as thermosetting plastics and thermoplastics, and coloring rubber products, such as automobile inner tube, aircraft inner tube, bicycle inner tube, etc. It is used for high-grade fine grinding materials and polishing precision hardware instruments, optical glass, etc. High purity is the main base material of powder metallurgy, which is used to smelt various magnetic alloys and other high-grade alloy steels. It is obtained by calcining ferrous sulfate or Iron Oxide Yellow or lower foot iron at high temperature, or directly from liquid medium.
