Zoomlion Pu'er Special Vehicle Company successfully developed 40 tons of wreckers

On December 26, 2005, the marketing department of Pu’er Bus Company received a call from the Three Gorges Corporation. During the conversation, a representative from the corporation praised the performance of the newly launched 40-ton wrecker, giving it a very high rating. This positive feedback marked a significant milestone for the company. In November 2005, the Three Gorges Corporation approached the car manufacturer to build a custom 40-ton wrecker, with a delivery deadline set for mid-December. At that time, only three domestic manufacturers had the capability to produce such heavy-duty equipment, but due to concerns over safety and reliability, these models were rarely available in the market. Three years prior, the winning bidder for the wrecker production project had initiated development on a 40-ton model. However, due to various challenges, no product was ever released. In May of the previous year, the project was handed over to Pudong Special Vehicle Company, a key production unit under the Zhonglian Group, which took charge of further research and improvements. Faced with tight deadlines and complex tasks, the car company formed a dedicated team led by Chief Engineer Liu Guoliang to handle the rectification of the 40-ton wrecker. Building upon the initial development work, the team worked intensively for over a month and successfully completed the project on schedule. The final testing and trial run were conducted on the 19th, and everything went smoothly. The newly developed 40-ton wrecker is equipped with advanced features. It uses an imported Mercedes-Benz chassis from Germany, significantly enhancing the vehicle’s reliability. The machine also includes an electronic control system that displays operational conditions on a computer screen, allowing operators to easily monitor parameters like lifting angle and arc rotation. In addition to standard safety devices, it features a torque limiter that automatically cuts off the operation if the load exceeds the rated capacity. The wrecker can be fitted with two winches, expanding its functionality and reducing ambulance costs. This innovation has eliminated the need for separate cranes and wreckers to operate simultaneously, improving efficiency. With a maximum working distance of over 40 meters, it offers greater flexibility and convenience for operations in complex terrains. Currently, the trend in the wrecker industry is moving toward larger and more powerful models. The successful development and market launch of the 40-ton wrecker not only captured a valuable market opportunity but also significantly enhanced Pu’er’s capabilities in manufacturing and developing specialized vehicles. According to information provided by the Three Gorges Corporation, the Pudong 40-ton wrecker has already completed three challenging rescue missions and continues to perform well. They have also expressed their intention to continue collaborating with Pudong in the coming year, signaling strong confidence in the product’s quality and performance.
