Zoomlion Pu'er Special Vehicle Company successfully developed 40 tons of wreckers

On December 26, 2005, the marketing department of Pu’er Bus Company received a call from the Three Gorges Corporation. During the conversation, a representative from the Three Gorges Corporation praised the performance of the newly deployed 40-ton wrecker, giving it a very high rating. This feedback marked a significant milestone for the company, as the product had just entered the market and was already receiving positive recognition. In November 2005, the Three Gorges Corporation approached the car company with a special request: to build a 40-ton wrecker and deliver it by mid-December. At that time, only three domestic manufacturers were capable of producing such heavy-duty equipment, but due to safety concerns, these vehicles rarely made it to the market. The demand for reliable and safe large-tonnage wreckers was growing, but the supply remained limited. Three years prior, the winning bidder of the wrecker production project had initiated the development of a 40-ton model. However, due to various challenges, no product was ever released. In May of the previous year, the project was handed over to Pudong Special Vehicle Company, a key unit under the Zhonglian Group, which took charge of the research and improvement process. Faced with tight deadlines and complex tasks, the car company formed a dedicated team led by Chief Engineer Liu Guoliang to oversee the rectification of the 40-ton wrecker. Building on the previous work done by the winning bidder, the team worked intensively for over a month and successfully completed the project on schedule. The final testing and trial run were conducted on the 19th, and everything went smoothly. This new 40-ton wrecker is equipped with advanced technology. It uses an imported Mercedes-Benz chassis from Germany, significantly enhancing the vehicle's reliability. The electronic control system allows operators to monitor working conditions through a computer display, making it easier to track parameters like lifting angle and arc rotation. In addition to standard safety features, it includes a torque limiter that automatically cuts off the system if the lifting weight exceeds the rated capacity. The machine also features two winches, enabling greater flexibility in operations and reducing the need for additional ambulance vehicles. This innovation has effectively eliminated the previous challenge of having to move the wrecker and crane separately. With a maximum working distance of over 40 meters, the wrecker is now more versatile and suitable for complex terrains, greatly improving efficiency in rescue operations. Currently, the trend in the wrecker industry is moving toward larger and more powerful models. The successful development and market launch of the 40-ton wrecker not only captured a key opportunity but also significantly boosted Pu’er’s capabilities in designing and manufacturing heavy-duty wreckers. According to information provided by the Three Gorges Corporation, the Pudong 40-ton wrecker has already successfully carried out three difficult rescue missions and continues to perform well. The company expressed its intention to continue cooperation with Pudong next year, signaling confidence in the product and the partnership.
