The presidents of Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia met in Buenos Aires on the 23rd to discuss regional energy cooperation. The leaders agreed to establish a ministerial working group aimed at aligning their energy policies and supporting sustained economic development across the three South American nations.
During a press conference following the summit, Argentine Foreign Minister Tayana confirmed that the heads of state had endorsed the creation of this group, which will focus on coordinating energy strategies, addressing shifting energy demands, exploring alternative energy sources, and managing natural gas exports among the countries.
Before the presidential meeting, senior energy officials from the three nations held a preparatory session. Argentina’s Planning Minister Julio de Vito, Bolivia’s Energy Minister Carlos Billegas, and Brazil’s Energy and Mining Minister Silas Rondo discussed key issues, including Brazil and Argentina's winter energy needs and Bolivia’s role in ensuring stable gas supplies to its neighbors.
Currently, both Brazil and Argentina rely on Bolivian natural gas imports. Brazil receives between 27 million and 29 million cubic meters daily, while Argentina gets 2.5 to 3 million cubic meters. A bilateral agreement signed last year requires Bolivia to supply 7 million cubic meters per day to Argentina this year. This collaboration underscores the growing importance of energy security and regional integration in South America.
