China Petroleum Baoji Petroleum Machinery Co., Ltd. recently announced that its first independently developed and manufactured 7,000-meter orbital mobile offshore oil drilling rig has successfully started operations in the Qiandongnanpu oilfield. This milestone marks a significant breakthrough, as it demonstrates China's successful mastery of advanced technology for offshore mobile drilling rigs.
The newly launched drilling rig features a groundbreaking circular orbit movement module, which uses hydraulic cylinders to dynamically shift well positions. This innovative design significantly reduces the time required for rig relocation, minimizes the use of mud and drilling tools, and enables simultaneous drilling and oil production. As a result, the efficiency of offshore oil field operations has been greatly enhanced.
Moreover, the main module of the rig integrates all ground equipment into a single platform, streamlining operations and improving overall drilling performance. This integration not only boosts efficiency but also fills a critical gap in China’s domestic offshore drilling technology.
This 7,000-meter ring-ring mobile drilling rig represents another major achievement by Baoji Petroleum Machinery, following the development of China's first 12,000-meter deep-well drilling rig used in offshore oil and gas projects. It also marks the successful realization of land-based oil drilling at sea, further solidifying China’s position in the global energy technology landscape.
